Roads, potholes and footpaths

Raised in 4 reports and 1 motion · most recently 22 June 2026

The state of our roads and footpaths, and traffic around schools and shops. What follows is what I’ve said in the Council chamber.

Notice of Motion 162 · 25 November 2024 · Carried unanimously

Potholes and the state of arterial roads in Knox

I moved a motion at my first Council meeting, on 25 November 2024, about the poor condition of the arterial roads in Knox. These are the major roads managed by the state government through VicRoads, and potholes and failing road surfaces came up again and again with residents during the election campaign.

And just a couple of other ward issues. I've had a bit of contact and some emails regarding street sweeping. Also an issue relating to bin collection, or some issues with non-collection due to access, in Rowville. And would just pass on my thanks to the relevant officers. I'd actually received an email from the resident just this evening saying they had received a very satisfactory response, and were hopeful that the issues were resolved, and were appreciative of the contact they'd received from the waste team. So thank you, officers, for your assistance there, and I'll submit a report with the rest.

And some local issues I'm picking up. I've had some correspondence quite recently about traffic and parking around Rowville Primary School and Scoresby Primary School, particularly at drop-off and pick-up time, which I intend to raise with the relevant officers. And I've also had some correspondence about some of the older footpaths that are surrounding and inside the Stud Park Shopping Centre, which is a mobility issue for some of the residents at Peppertree Hill Retirement Village there next to Stud Park. So, I'll be raising that one too, and we'll keep those residents updated as I go.

Locally in the ward, there's been a few local issues. Similar to Councillor Baker, street sweeping's come up a little bit. I think autumn's firing that up, so I'm following up on a few inquiries regarding street sweeping. I've had some concerns regarding some solar-powered lights that aren't working at the moment. I've reported those through, and I'm tracking through each of those.

So certainly matters of, and conversations relating to, potholes and the unsightly and unsafe medians on arterial roads across Knox, and those matters coming to Council tonight in the form of notices of motion. Lots of conversations with residents seeking clarity around Council's intentions for Australia Day, and I see we've got a question from the public coming on that matter.
